For decades, the state of Tennessee had a gasoline tax dedicated to the financing of its road system and constantly running a huge surplus. And, for decades the roads of Tennessee, which is generally considered among the top three in the nation.

So what happened? TennCare happened. And Gov. Phil Bredesen happened. Who broke into the road fund to supplement the general revenue fund to help. And we all know that once a group of politicians get their hands on a new source of funding, its "Katie bar the door."

Our politicians must discuss the rededication of gasoline taxes back to the roads. But in contrast, wring their hands and talk about how they have no idea why there is not enough money in the fund to the highway.

But, of course, know how to fix it as they know how to solve every problem state.
Just raise taxes.
